MAYAWATI’S UNDISPUTED LEADERSHIP AMONGST THE DALITS DEFENITELY HAS EMERGED HER AS A NATIONAL LEADER
____________________________________________________
A year ago when Ms. Mayawati won the election in the Uttar Pradesh there was lots of hue and cry about bramhins touching the feet of a dalit Chief Minister and even it was reported in the Telegraph, United Kingdom by their writer Peter Foster to which I had replied that in India out of respect people do touch the feet of the elders, gurus, leaders, teachers and mentors and therefore, absolutely there is nothing wrong in to it if a higher caste person touches the feet of a lower caste individual who is even otherwise a Chief Minister of a state representing at least more than ten crores of people.
Of late, Ms. Mayawati’s undisputed leadership amongst the dalits definitely has emerged her as a National Leader from the northern part of India. However, it would be premature to comment upon whether she would be a Prime Minister and / or dictate her term staking / claiming for her candidates for the highest political post of this country.
Yesterday I was sitting with one of the Member of Parliament who is one of the senior most leaders from the state of Orissa and we were exactly discussing on the emergence of various regional political parties and the leaders in India. Possibly such a political practice in India these days would bring a dent to this biggest democracy of the world in the near future.
Lest to talk about any other areas when the state of Orissa as on date has at least ten renowned political parties and the people therein are confused as to whom to cast their votes etc. A person possibly who would get 12-15 % of votes in any given constituency possibly would get elected and less to talk about their performance, functionality etc. after getting elected. In India sometimes it becomes very difficult for any individual party to emerge as a single largest party to rule the state or the nation. It is definitely not a good sign for a real governance and democracy in near future, in case such practice prevails for a longer period.
As such I have written an Article a year ago on the major political parties in India “Congress Versus BJP in Indian Politics”. For me irrespective of what ever regional political parties emerging themselves and fielding their candidates, it is the organized political parties, who are destined to survive rather than the fly by night political parties. They can at best be a part of the pressure group, but it is very difficult to break or threaten the real National Political parties like Congress or BJP who have generations together ruled this country or generations together their cadre / sangh people working tirelessly hard across the country.
Therefore finally I would like to conclude herewith that of late irrespective of Ms. Mayawati; who has emerged as a National Leader in India with an undisputed leadership over the dalits but it would be premature to suggest that she or their candidate would stake their claims as a Prime Minister of this country in near future.
Thank you for a patient reading.
